It has been snowing...

SnowFerret and SnowCat not SnowLizard and snowBear :-)

but we're not allowed to play outside only look at it from the window!  Stella and I have been poorly twice since December and we're really fed up of antibiotics.

The first set was tragically disguised in some sort of orange antifreeze concoction (Mummy says it was just orange squash) - it was disgusting but I got better somehow!

Six weeks later Stella and I were suffering with the dreaded cold so we had  to go so back to the vets and this time he gave us a different prescription which mummy assured us when we got in the car  "will taste lovely, just like liquorice" - yes liquorice flavoured antifreeze; we are lucky ferrets!

Despite the continued torture we are feeling much better now thank you and hope to stay away from antibiotics forever which won't happen we're told - "if we go outside playing in wet snow!"

RIP Mij 11.10.12

Mij at 12 weeks old.

Mij improved dramatically after her initial operation and was almost back to her usual self all except for a sudden molt around April time; leaving her looking like a plucked chicken! She was happy and we were hopeful her hair would return and in the last couple of weeks more improvement was seen.

The lack of posts have been mostly due to inclement weather and hectic lives, we all apologise for this.

Regrettably on Thursday night we arrived home from work to find Mij severely dehydrated, we took her to the emergency vets who diagnosed her with enlarged pancreas a clear sign of insulinoma, a condition common in ferrets but unfortunately incurable, Mij was 6 years and 2 months old.

Mij's visit to the vets

Scuzzy in "afternoon nap" pose
Hello everyone, Scuzzy here.  We haven't been posting for a while, the winter months have left us feeling cold and sleepy without much energy for anything.  However spring has now arrived so Mum and Dad sent Mij off to the vets for a special operation to remove a cyst from her neck.  We thought she'd been fighting with crocodiles when she came back she had 8 stitches in her neck!!

Daddy holding Mij for better sight of stitches and sympathy!
Here she is, 3 week later still with stitches and still unable to join the rest of us in the main house, instead she's resting in her "Spa Resort" and will be there until the stitches fully dissolve.  I don't think we can take it in turns at the "Spa Resort" because Mum and Dad would like to have their front room back but still I'm hoping to contract a cold in the coming weeks - I could do with a holiday!

Jake and Jasper movie update

This move has now been accepted as the official selection at the 2012 International family fun festival in Hollywood, CA. - Well done to Alison and her team for getting this to the big screen!

I've only just realised that we're not legal in California, how very odd... have there been some mass murdering ferrets or vicious rabid ferrets on the loose causing terror to the local communities!? - if anyone out there knows please do tell us, we're dying to know

The Black footed ferret - extinct no more!

image courtesy of USFWS Mountain Prairie

September marks the 30th anniversary of the rediscovery of black footed ferrets in the Wild. The last population of black footed ferrets was thought to have been lost in the late 1970′s. In 1981 a population of  ferrets were discovered in the Meeteetse, WY area when a dog caught a ferret and brought it home.
The last remaining population of wild black footed ferrets was thought to have disappeared in South Dakota in the late 1970′s. After the dog brought home the ferret in 1981 it lead to a search and discovery. The extensive search lead officials to the discovery of a thriving population of wild black footed ferrets. Since then black footed ferret numbers have continued to hold steady.
Now there are several populations that have been established in Wyoming and several other states in the West. To mark the 30th anniversary of the rediscovery, Wyoming Game and Fish Department will host tours of the rediscovery area on September 24th - 25th.

More new bedding

We're being spoilt again...its probably due to them leaving us with Granny whilst they holidayed in July - guilt!

Cuddle cup, triple hammock and mop sack

Look at our fancy "triple hammocks", aptly named "cuddle cups" and "mop sack" - Daddy struggled to set up our cubes correctly, he needs new hooks so we'll show you those next time.

Cuddle cup with Stalla and Mij

A big thank you to Nikki (roxy and casper) on the "ferret forum" for her super speedy and yet wonderful craft skills - We'll send some more pictures as soon as Daddy manages to fit some more hooks!

Please contact me if you would like to order some bedding from Nikki.
